Chapter 9

                              “Was he in love?”

Khushi came back after an hour or so. Initially Arnav’s plan was to give her few minutes and that would be enough but he ended up letting her win. The best, at that moment, Arnav could do for Khushi was to let her have her time.

She had cried, he knew the moment he got glimpse of her. He didn't question. She was so brave that she could cry without even caring about what if people judged her? or made fun of her. He admired that. She was so real. She sat beside him on the passenger seat, “Where is HP?” she asked finding Arnav on the driver seat instead of Old man.

“I told him to leave.” he had something on his mind and he couldn't do that with HP around.

She didn't say anything, got comfortable on the seat and sighed in relief; her family was okay.

“What did your aunt tell you?” he asked bringing the car into life.

“She told me I must not trust your family with my heart and should never let you play with my heart.” she stated simply and honestly. He was amused, it was unfair that she was with him. He didn't deserve her… but life was unfair, nobody knew that better than him.

  “Your aunt is intelligent.”

“She is!” khushi said proudly “She told me she knew you.”

“I don't.”

“Don't lie,” khushi furrowed her brows.

“I am not lying.” Arnav defended himself. He didn't want to go back to past.

“-No buts and if.” it was a full stop to discussion. She sighed and moved her gaze from him to the road ahead. They were almost out of village.

The car stopped and khushi clutched Arnav’s hand instantly seeing three guys with guns standing in front of their car.

“Calm down,” Arnav told her without looking at her, his gaze fixed on his enemy. He rolled the small drawer out and pressed some buttons. His men will be here as soon as they got the signal.

What the hell were they doing here anyway? He wondered, so eager to die, he guessed. “Khushi, follow me and stand behind me.” he ordered in such tone that khushi found no reason to protest. She could get murdered.

She followed him outside, stood behind him. For the first time she noticed how large he was compared to her.

Arnav stood there with his jaws clenched, hands by his sides, perfectly balled. His eyes piercing the soul of the person standing in front of him, if only eyes could kill people. His muscles were tensed and locked up. He didn't say a word, it wasn't his rule to start conversation, it was other way around. He listened and accessed.

“ASR, Man, you know why we are here. Don't you?” The man in black Salwar suit said, he has mustache and he was wearing kohl and jewelry. He was surrounded by two men holding guns and wearing khaki salwar suits and off course with mustaches and rings on their fingers. They looked different from Arnav’s men to khushi. Their accent was different.

Arnav stayed silent.

“I am here to tell you that keep your nose out of my matters,” the guy in black suit said, his tone was stern like he was going to kill anyone who came in his way. Arnav stood with his head held high, confidently. Which was one of the reason the person standing in front of him was furious.

Khushi clutched fabric from his waist, tightly, letting him know she was afraid. He breathed in and out twice. The only thing worried him was khushi. His own life wasn't important at that moment.

Khushi felt tension in the air. It was familiar. She felt it before somewhere as well but she couldn't get her head around the thought of experiencing this thing before. Her mind was making up stories due to overwhelming fear, she thought.

“ASR, I will not think twice before hurting the b itch behind you.” this got a reaction from ASR.

“You call her that again and I promise, I will show you hell on earth,” khushi shivered hearing his dangerously low voice, it smelled of danger, and tasted like death. Her hold tightened on the fabric. She pressed her face in his back. Not crying but scared as hell.

The guy raised his eyebrows, “You seem f*cking whipped,” he smirked but became serious in a second, “I don't give a f*ck as long as you don't butt in my business matters.”

Arnav was silent. The guy continued, “Come on man, let's mind our own business. It doesn't suit you, this job of interfering can get you killed.” khushi took a deep breath but Arnav stayed rigid.

A few seconds and the guy’s face hardened. “Shoot.” Arnav raise his eyebrow.

“You sure?” Arnav asked challenging.

if they killed Arnav they wouldn't survive but if they left him alone they wouldn't survive either so the guy chose to ignore Arnav’s question. If his business would end, Arnav must end as well. But he didn't see that he has just cut his own feet with his own axe.

Khushi heard loud noises of shooting, closed her eyes. Two men in khaki dresses were shot in head and now we're lying on the dirty road like they never existed or breathed. Their blood was all over The road and khushi saw it. Her breath hitched, heart beating faster, she digged her nails in his skin from the fabric her legs felt like jelly, and her vision blurred. She passed out and was lying on The floor as if dead.

The man in black was surrounded by ASR’s most trusted 5 men, including his brother this time. But just as he saw the woman of his enemy, he pointed gun in khushi’s direction and before anyone registered anything, two shots were fired, one by the guy in black aimed at khushi and the other was NK who aimed at the head of the enemy. His shot murdered the guy in black. Arnav thought khushi was dead and he was late. Tears blinded his vision.

Arnav fell on his knees, the bullet that had pierced through his body. He didn't realise until pain shoot from his left shoulder, “F*ck.” He has taken the bullet and guarded his wife. He was successful and he was proud of that.

Everyone was now looking at each other to see who was hurt by whom.

“Khushi,” Arnav held khushi in his arms.

“ASR you are bleeding. Let's leave.” Arnav didn't move.

“Khushi..” Arnav patted her cheek. Ankit, Akash, and Shyam were surrounding Arnav and khushi. Ali walked back to NK Who was numb.

“Khushi…” NK spoke in low voice, he almost choked. Was she dead? Was he late? He was sad because his brother seemed to love that girl or at least have some soft spot for her and he loved his brother. And everything that held value in his brother’s eyes was important to him too.

Ali cupped NK’s shoulder and dragged him where Arnav sat.

“We need to hurry up.” Shyam called them both.

“Is khu-khushi dead?” NK asked

“No. She is not.”

“She is okay, she fainted. Probably because of fear.” Akash told Arnav but he didn't let her go from his grip.

“Arnav…” Ali put his hand on his shoulder which wasn't bleeding.

“She needs to be inspected by doctor.” Arnav nodded at Ankit. He was shocked and flabbergasted.  They drove back to Haveli. With different thought, all were silent while khushi was unconscious. They were all worried for one woman in ASR's arms...

Was he really that whipped that he almost sacrificed his life to save her? Not that he was going to die by just one bullet in his shoulder but what he felt was important.

Was he in love? He had no answer.

my final exams are nearing :( but good part is that, I have like 3 months free ;) hope you all like this update. Next will be elitists.

Chapter 10

“Devi Mayya!” she muttered.

Slowly she opened her eyes and examined the place where she was. It was dark but not dark enough to scare her. She was alone. She took a deep breath, she wasn't dreaming. It wasn't a nightmare. It was real. She closed her eyes and laid their feeling sick again. She felt nauseated.

In few minutes, she fell asleep again.

“F*ck!” Arnav groaned. Ali walked near his bed and stood near the edge of the bed with his arms folded on his chest. Arnav glared at him. He found himself in what looked like Ali’s room.

“Why the f*ck would you drug me,” he threw his head back in sheer frustration.

“Because you wouldn't sleep.”

“You aren't my f*cking mother.” Arnav gritted his teeth. He sat up.

“Arnav lay back. Khushi is safe with Di,” Ali told him still standing there.

“You don't get to tell me what to do.”

“Man, you are in love.” Ali chuckled and Arnav looked at him angrily.

“Well you can't deny it. Look at you, you are restless. That's what happens with lovers”.

“If you say another word. I swear I will break your neck.”

“Look! I am afraid.” Ali said dramatically. “Why do you think you would take a bullet for her? And I am guessing that you knew her from years.”

Arnav hated it when Ali would guess it all with his clever, witty mind. He is one of the best spy he has and he happened to be his friend. But it annoyed him when he would make Arnav say things he didn't want to. He knew khushi, yes. He liked her, yes. But he didn't want to admit that and Ali wouldn't leave unless he admitted.

“So I take your silence as yes.” he sat beside Arnav who seemed to be deep in thoughts, “Look man, you can't run away now, can you?” Arnav glanced at Ali and sighed.

“I just don't understand it all. I think it wasn't suppose to happen.”

“Why did you lie about khushi’s identity?”

“She is a weakness…” Arnav said choosing to ignore Ali’s question.

‘It depends on what you want her to be.” Arnav looked at him and frowned. “A woman, you love,” Arnav glared at him, “Okay! Sorry, your wife,” he threw his hands in air dramatically and continued. “I was saying, she can be what you think she is to you. I mean she can be a saviour, your power and pleasure. You cherish her and stay happy or you fear her and stay gloomy and scared.” it took few minutes for Arnav to understand what Ali meant and nodded in response. His friend was right.

“I need to see her.”

“It's 12:30 a.m. and your delicate wife is sleeping, boy.”

“Don't you dare come in my way.” Ali rolled his eyes.

“Need some help?”

“No, it's just a small wound. It wil recover soon.” his arm ached, in fact the whole left side did but he just couldn't shut down the voices in his head. They are creepy. He needed to see her in order to shut them up.

Ali ignored Arnav’s protest and walked him to where khushi laid in Arnav’s room. He left them alone: khushi asleep and Arnav laying beside her.

“Open your eyes.” Arnav whispered laying beside her. Their bodies touching each other, her hairs fell of his shoulder, just how he wanted them to be. He let her use his right arm as a pillow. Besides, he told himself, this side wasn't aching. And good husbands do that.

“I want to see you smile.” no response. She was sleeping soundly. How lucky she was, she could sleep and lock it all away. And there he was who couldn't even sleep for 12 hours, even after being drugged by his friend.

She was an angel, a shining star. She has to be peaceful, came a voice within him. Yes she was, a beautiful, ****yhe might add and lovely angel.

She moved in her sleep and he felt his heart beating faster. His eyes widened, did she just do that? She just affected him so bad? He was shocked but he was even more surprise when he felt her lips on his neck. Had she moved so closer to him in her sleep? He dared not to move his head and see her, he knew he would be in trouble and he didn't want that. He wanted his desires to be in check. At least for now.

He felt butterflies in his stomach, which he never felt before. It was all new to a man like him.

He closed his eyes hoping that sleep would knock the door of his hyperactive brain and it did after few torturous minutes.

On the dark road, a black car stood and men in black holding knives surrounded who seemed like her mother.

“Open your eyes Mira Gupta. DON'T you want to see your daughter?”

“No…..NO. NO. NO” A woman in her early thirties cried in agony. Her screams filled with pain. But men in black looked ruthless, laughing like maniacs. They tore her cloths and she cried. Her cries didn't seem to be solely for herself. They seemed for someone standing away by two men and watching with a fearful expression and sobbing.

Khushi found herself in broken and tattered cloths, crying. She looked at men surrounding her mother and tearing her clothes and laughing. They held knives and cut her under garments. Khushi screamed, “NO STOP IT!” but they didn't. They didn't even hear her.

Khushi saw them Cutting her fingers from both hands and she screamed in agony. Her beautiful face was red showing how much she suffers. Khushi screamed and tried to push men away with all her might, but they seemed intangible to her.

“Cut her,” A man standing above her said with sly smirk.

“NO.” KHUSHI cried.

“Cut her throat, yes do that.” khushi screamed in fear and pain. It was as If she was feeling it. She screamed so did the little girl, held by two men, do.

They put the knife on her throat, “Didn't we tell you to stay away? But, no you needed justice. But you get, DEATH.” They all laughed at their victory and the woman laid dead with blood all over her body.

They murdered the little girl and now turned toward khushi who was screaming and crying. Their eyes full of lust. They were men with red eyes holding knives, approaching her with confident steps. Khushi ran from them but they were everywhere.

She felt the hard, cold road touching her mercilessly, wounding her body as the one man dragged her from her toe. The road wounded her back, scratching it.

She screamed and screamed. Nobody came to help. No one did.

“KHUSHI,” Arnav shook her but khushi was deep in her nightmare, crying for help. He held the glass of water from nearby table and sprinkle it on her sweat stained face. She opened her eyes and saw him. He was surprised after see in the intensity of fear in her hazal orbs. She was sobbing and hiccuping.

He tried to move closer, his pain long forgotten. He was worried for her. But just as he moved. She was even more scared.

She became violent and threw everything she found near her on him. She slapped him, when he tried to hold, she was extra energetic because of fear, Arnav guessed. She threw real powerful punches on his shoulder, Aran groaned I pain. He hugged her and held her arms tightly not to let her slap or punch or throw anything on him.

He didn't get any injury from the stuff she threw at him but she did successfully wound his forehead, which was now bleeding. And he guessed it was because of the glass, God knows from where she picked it up and throw at him.

She sobbed, no more resisting. She silently fell asleep again. And laid her down again.

Pain shoot through his entire body, he groaned laying beside her again.

“We need a doctor here,” he called Ali who he knew wouldn't inquir not at this moment, at least.

“Did your wife beat you up, man?” he laughed.

“F*ck you!” Arnav groaned laying on the bed beside khushi after doctor examined him and gave him some painkillers.

“She can't possibly hit you. She is too fragile. Did you hug the wall thinking it was khushi?”

“I swear I am going to kill you.” Arnav said annoyed, even though he enjoyed it all. At least it made him feel lighter.

Arnav became serious and told Ali to take him outdoors. In the garden.

“You will burn in hell for ruining my sleep, b astard.” he made Arnav sit on the chair.

“You will be with me, don't worry!”

“What's the matter?” he sat opposite to Arnav. The garden is big and a set of metal chairs is arranged and according to Arnav’s grandmother, family breakfasted here every summer morning. It was ok but in good state.

“Khushi,” Arnav bite his lip.

“Wah about her?”

“There is something about her past, that's troubling her.”

“You mean, she beat you up after having a nightmare.” Ali concluded looking at Arnav to see if he articulated right.

“Did someone ****ually assault her, maybe?”

“I don't know.” Arnav furrow his brows. He shook his head, “I think it's something about her parents.” Ali was silent, “I want to know what happened to her parents? How they died?”

“And you want me to discover that?” Ali raised his eyebrow.

“I do.”

“Okay, then.” it was Ali’s signature reply and when he said that Arnav knew work would be done sooner than expected. “You need rest.” Ali stood up, “Come on.”

They went inside.

Chapter 11

                           “Love Her Now!”

Next day

“It was all your fault...we are still here because You messed it up…” Aliya said angrily. Arnav’s grandma was sitting on the head chair, beside her were Arnav on the left and Aliya on the right. NK sat beside Arnav. Food was being served by servants called by his grandmother who thought it wasn't convenient for Khushi to work.

“Mom, it wasn't his-”

“-Shut up! Did I ask you to become lawyer of your brother”

“Aliya…” Arnav’s grandma interrupted “We can go tonight!”

“But you were supposed to be in Delhi. It's about your health not us”.

Arnav stayed silent. One by one everyone was arriving at the table.

“I would like to stay here for few more days” grandma said once everyone  [except khushi] settled on the table. “I want to spent some days with my new daughter-in-law.”

“If Dadi wants that, why are you fighting with her anyway? Trying to dominate her? Let her decide what she wants.” Arnav said a little more sternly. His mother knew when not to argue with him, after all.

“Where is your wife?” Anjali inquired stuffing her mouth with bread.

“It's 9 a.m.”

“Now you have a problem with her sleep timing too?”

“I am just asking!”

“Rani Sahiba, she was afraid as hell. She needs sleep.” Shyam interfered as usual or it would lead to an argument.

“Good morning!” khushi cheered softly. Arnav looked at her, she seemed fresh and fine like a rose.

“Come, come, sit here!” NK gave her seat beside Arnav. Khushi hesitated a bit but sat down smiling at NK and mouthed a ‘thank you” to him.

“What happened to you yesterday? Why was the entire house on fire?” Arnav looked at his mother and sighed. She just loved repeating past events.

“Nothing,” khushi shrugged and keep on eating. She was hungry.

“Nothing means?” she furrowed her brows.

“When no event happens, we call it nothing,” khushi replied still eating.

“You are f*cking awesome!” NK cheered, “I don't even regret killing for you now!” Arnav glared at him. “Oops! I didn't say anything, you didn't hear it. Okay khushi?” khushi narrowed her eyes, chewing her lower lip, she tried to register what he said.

“NK is crazy, don't bother”. Akash said softly.

“You are calling my son what? For a girl, you don't even know!” Aliya said irritated. They didn't have to like her that much. Khushi was just an ordinary girl and she must be treated like one.

“Uh I don't mind-” NK was cut off by his mother's glare.

“Do you want some kebab. They are tasty as-” Shyam begin but Anjali cut him off “Not your terrible picked-up lines for my cooked food.”

Khushi giggled and Arnav instantly looked at her side profile. “What's wrong if we just hear him once, maybe.” khushi said grinning…

“You will regret it!” Aman who was silent till now, spoke up and Khushi disapproved.

“They are terrible!” Ankit added gulping the food in his mouth.

“Why don't you first eat, I will finish my picked-up line in that time.”

“Go on…” khushi encouraged, excited to hear What he was going to say. She stared at his face as he prepared himself to say what he intended to.

“Are you Nyx? Because you are all I can see,” khushi’s eyes widened.

“Do you know Greek mythology?” khushi asked amazed.

“No, I didn't. My wife keeps on reading about them.” Shyam made a face.

“Who was just now acting corny as F?” Anjali mocked him.

“Why don't you kids eat silently?” Dadi interrupted “Look at Arnav, he is all silent. My good boy.”

“What? No he said he is bad guy!” khushi said making a face.

“Khushi eat!” Arnav stressed. She looked in his eyes and then looked away.

“You are liar,” she whispered in his ears.

“Thanks for the compliment, now eat.”

“Arnav,” she held his hand under the table, Arnav blinked his eyes, startled by her sudden gesture. “Was yesterday real?” she asked softly.

“Yes!” he said even though he wanted to lie but decided to say the truth.

She was silent after that, holding his hand, she ate. Occasionally NK would joke about stuff.

Morning went by, Arnav doing stuff with his friends what they called ‘work’. Khushi spent the day with Dadi who was teaching her knitting and cooking. She promised her she will write a book in which she will scribble all her recipes for her. And khushi was excited.

“Dadi, why is everyone not around?” khushi asked after finding no one for hours in the house. They had lunch alone. Anjali wasnt hungry and arnav’s mother was visiting fields.

“They all work!”

“And you live alone?” khushi said shocked.

“When you get older, loneliness becomes your best friend.” she smiled sadly and it broke khushi’s heart. She was told to love everyone. She hugged Dadi and burried her face in her neck.

“Don't say that. I will be your best friend. Just don't be sad, Dadi.”

“You are such an angel.” Dadi concluded breaking the hug and cupped khushi’s face, “I am proud of his choice. He has chosen the best bride for himself.” Dadi said and khushi faked a smile. Suddenly, she remembered everything that happened yesterday. They were going to kill him or maybe her too!

Dadi didn't notice khushi’s lost self. She kept on knitting sweater for Arnav.

“Khushi…” khushi’s eyes followed the direction of the voice and there stood Anjali smiling. She gestured khushi to follow her and khushi excused herself from Dadi who smiled in return.

Anjali and khushi walked to Anjali’s room.

“I want to tell you something as a friend. You will not tell anybody what is your last name or who your parents are!”

“For your safety, “ Anjali lied “You remember what happened yesterday? It's good if you conceal your identity from everyone. We can't trust anyone.” Anjali successfully manipulated khushi. And khushi got convinced but still doubt was there. She will ask Arnav.

“Where is Arnav?” khushi asked Anjali as they walked downstairs for afternoon tea.

“He will be in livingroom.”

He was there, everyone was there. Holding teas/coffee and chatting. They didn't seem bad to khushi like her friend has described them. They were just normal like her family except his mother. She was strange.

“Come on, your tea is getting cold Khushi.” khushi smiled at the very generous NK.

“Thank you for making me one,” khushi said holding the cup and sat beside him.

“You can sit here,” Arnav said irritated, she is getting too close to NK.

“Are you jealous?” NK said grinning and khushi glanced at both, confused.

“Shut up!”

“ahh!” khushi hissed, everyone looked at her, “tea was too hot,” she smiled sheepishly.

“You are so cute.” Akash grinned. And khushi blushed.

“Stop getting jealous,” Ali whispered.

“You stop poking in my matter.”

“Admit it! she is cute,” Ali grinned.

“She is,”

“Then what's wrong if they praise her? NK used to flirt with Lavanya too.”

“It was different then,” he said looking at khushi who was chatting with everyone, smiling like a child, “It's different now.”

“What makes it different.”

“The fact that,” Arnav hasitated a bit but decided to say it, “Anyone can love her, doesn't settle well with me. You have to look at every person who talk with her, they all seem whipped.”

“I don't know about others but to me you seem wh-”

“-Shut up!” Arnav threw a glare in his direction.

“Why are you running away. It's written on your face. I can even smell love in the air when you are around her.”

“She doesn't feel the same,” Arnav admitted, “She probably will never.”

“Considering the way you married her, we can't blame her but you can't let it all ruin what you have today. Love her now! You don't know what is stored for the future. But you have today, love her even if she doesn't feel the same. And there is always hope.”

A filler but don't forget to comment!

Chapter 12

“You know,” khushi said sitting on the bed, at night, in front of him, “I want to know something.” she was afraid and a bit worried. She still remembered his yesterday's behaviour.

“I am all ears.” he said putting his tablet away.

“I…” she took a deep breath and sighed, “Nothing.”

“Are you sure?”

“Come here,” he softly pulled her in his arms, made her sit her in his lap and begin stroking her cheeks.

“What are-doing”

“You ate “you” babe,” she blushed hard.

“Make me,” she looked in his eyes and blinked twice.

‘Would you play for me again?”

“What?” he pretended to be confused. She blushed a little more, the pink color creeping on her cheeks and now her sharp nose.

“Piano,” she murmured loud enough for him to hear.

“Look at me,” she did and he moved his face closer to hers. Their breaths mingling. She smelled of mint and tea. He licked his lips, the taste of his first ever kiss was still there.

“Yep, every time you want, I will play for you.” he replied looking into her beautiful eyes. If she wants something, he would give her that. He laid her beside him, put his arm around her shoulders and laid there in silence.

“Tell me,” she snuggled in his embrace and said, “Something I don't know.” his brows raised and his eyes focused on her lips. He moved closer (carefully not to hurt his arm) until their lips were touching. Khushi felt jolts of current passing through her body. Butterflies flying in their stomachs. She closed her eyes and he stared breathlessly. She was beautiful, as an angel would be or maybe more than that.

Was it a sin to touch her? He wondered.

“You-” he swallowed hard, “Are brave, Khushi!” she opened her eyes and a confused Frown made its way on her forehead. She slowly moved away but he held her back. “Don't-”

“-Are you making fun of me?”

“No, I am not!”

“You are,” she cried and tried to push him away and accidentally smacked his left shoulder. He hissed in pain instinctively. And she gasped. “Wh-at ha-app-ened?” she asked terrified.

“Nothing,” he hushed her but she had felt thick bandage under his charcoal colored shirt.

“Did they hurt you?” khushi was about to cry.

“Yes!” he didn't lie "But i deserved it."

“How did this happened?”

“Khushi,” he decided to change the subject, “Do you remember what happened last night?” khushi looked thoughtful. After few seconds, she shook her head.

“No, I had a nightmare but i don't remember what it was!” she frowned slightly, trying to remember it.

Arnav sighed, successfully distracted. Another thing he discovered about his wife was this. She was unlike any women he has ever encountered.

“Is it worth the trouble?” he suddenly asked.

“huh?” khushi was confused.

“I mean-nothing.”

“Whats wrong?”

“No, tell me!” khushi insisted.

“First you tell me what was that you wanted to know?” he demanded

“Did Anjali say something to you?” she could smell anger in his tone and rushed to explain.

“No! no! She told me,” he raised his eyebrow, “Not to tell my name… my surname to anyone.”

“You told her...your surname?” Arnav cursed himself for being so careless.

“I did.”

“She asked me!’ she replied innocently.

“She is right….I mean we can't-”

“-DONT lie to me!” khushi said sternly, “Tell the truth.” she was troubled by this thing so much and if he was hiding something she would make sure he tell her!

“My mom doesn't like you,” he bite his lip. What was the point of hiding the truth anyway? “And she would detest you even more if she knew who you are.” he trailed off softly.

“Why would you marry me if your mother doesn't like me?” khushi would wonder in coming weeks that from where she has grabbed the courage to question him that night. But she did felt safe in his arms. Safe enough to question him.

“I-” he was silent for minutes and khushi thought he wouldn't reply. Just when she opened her mouth to say something, he interrupted, “My mother and your mother were best friends from childhood and they somehow ended up fighting and they decided they hated each other. And my mother has this strange habit of never letting a conflict or grudge go! So…”

“You love her, don't you?” she mentally slapped herself for asking such a dumb question but she wanted to hear him say that he loved her….She didn't know why!

“You can share your secrets. I won't tell anyone,” she assured him innocently as if trusting her was a really big deal. He could already trust her with his life but he just couldn't utter those words not for his mother. Not that he hated her but he was just like that….never good at words.

“I trust you.”

“Then tell me!” she demanded.

“I love her...more than I have I ever loved anyone,” he spoke lost in flashbacks of good old days when she actually cared and loved him.

“Have you told her that?”

“No…” he furrowed his brows, startled. He for a moment forgot that he was with a woman and not in the past.

“You sh-”

“-No I will not, nor will YOU!” he ordered, like really ordered in a very stern way that earned a firm nod from very scared khushi.

They laid in silence for minutes. She didn't dare to speak or even breath louder due to fear and he was fighting to get right words to have a conversation with her. Like normal human.

He kissed her forehead gently and tried to pull away from her, “I will play for you.”

“No!” she got up and continued, “Your arm hurts, I can wait.” she pushed him softly on the mattress. He didn't fight back.

They slept after fighting with silence that won at the end.

Morning went away and khushi was told that they would stay in the village until Dadi wants. And Dadi told her, she would like to stay for a week here.

“Most boring husband a woman can have…” Anjali complaint sitting in the living room where all the elders and youngers were sitting and having tea/coffee.

“Don't!” Shyam began defending himself, “You make me read all that weird stuff with you and you are accusing me of being boring husband?”

“Ahh you are the one who is always busy with-”

“-Anjali, Shyam! It's not good to fight like cats and dogs. Stop right here!” Aliya glared at them both and they both glared at each other.

Khushi chuckled and all eyes turned on her. She became silent.

“You think it's funny when partners fight each other?” Aliya asked in her intimidating way. Khushi blinked her eyes, caught off-guard.

“No, they-they,” he flutter her eyebrows, “Look cute.” she trailed.

“You think I LOOK CUTE?” Shyam jumped from his seat, bewildered. Khushi nodded timidly. “No woman has ever said these holy words to me khushi!” Anjali rolled her eyes at her husband's extraness.

“As if khushi know anything about men,” Anjali spoke as a matter of fact. “Besides, her husbands is you friend, boring as hell!”

Khushi looked at Anjali and thought of telling her that Arnav wasn't boring but stayed silent. What if Arnav didn't like that? She thought and stayed silent.

Anjali and Shyam kept on fighting despite Aliya’s interruptions. And khushi had good laugh. And Arnav had plenty to feed his eyesher precious smile, he thought was worth everything he ever owned or maybe more.

“Khushi,” he interrupted everyone and said, “We are going out!”

“going on honeymoon, maybe.” Shyam grinned.

“Shut up!” and he did but the grin was there!

“Where are we going?” khushi asked carefully.

“Where do you want to go?” he asked once settled beside her and signaled HP to drive.

“Say it.”

“I want to see m-y family.”

“Alright, we are going there.” with her eyes widened khushi looked at Arnav.

Beautiful Pain. Next chapter*Opening up* (By Farakhan) (Thanked: 38 times)

Chapter 13 (A) *had to split it or it would have reached to 4000 words :(*

                                          "Opening Up"

“Try to understand who you are in his life then make him understand what you ought to be…”

Khushi has met her family, she tried to persuade Arnav to join her but he didn't. khushi asked looking at his side profile, “Where are you taking me?”

“To kill you!” he joked but khushi took it seriously. HP shook his head but dared not to interfere. Arnav hated it if anyone interfere in his personal life.

“Wh-y?” she shuttered.

“You disobey me a lot,” he hid his smirk and looked out of the window.

“I-” she went silent actually believing that he was going to kill her. She started fidgeting with her shawl. Worry lines showed up on her face.

HP drove for ten minutes or so and stopped the car in deserted area. Khushi looked at Arnav but he didn't. He got out of car, so did khushi and he took her hand in his...lovingly. Khushi was again surprised and confused.

What was he trying to do? Her innocent brain wondered. She started walking with Arnav not knowing where he was taking her while HP sat in the car relaxing his muscles. Arnav turned to face her, stood in front of her and softly caressed her chin, “How should I kill you?” she gulped down and dared not to look up at him. She closed her eyes and felt his lips on hers, her eyes shot opened. She gasped, flabbergasted and he took the opportunity to explore her mouth. He kissed her to his satisfaction. Licking his lips, he stared at her now wet, pink lips for seconds. Arnav tucked the hairs behind her ears.

“My beautiful Khushi.” he breathed out.

Khushi looked at him in daze and amazement.

“You are not going to kill me?” she asked wondering if he was just kidding.

“Not if you strike a deal with me!” he wet his lips.

“I will not disobey-”

he shook his head and cupped her jaws, “Say your lips belong to me and I can kiss them anytime I want…”

She pouted, “That's cheating.”

“Remember someone told me on breakfast table that I'm bad guy…” he air-quoted, “You know bad guys are mannerless, right?”

“Okay, choose between your life and your lips…” khushi innocently thought about his proposal and decided to save her life.

“What okay?” he asked deliberately.

“You can….you know...kiss me…” she said flushing.

“Is that a deal, then?” he raised his eyebrow and khushi nodded her head. “But I wasn't gonna kill you!” khushi’s eyes widened as she realized his trick.

“You cheater!” he laughed and it made her feel so stupid. Ugh he was so clever. “I hate you for tricking me,” she huffed folding her arms on her chest.

“Your lips, they give me life khushi…” he said caressing her lower lip softy. She felt her knees weakening, her heart beat raising, her hands shivering and her lips parting in response to his touch. She stared at him spell-bounded. “You lips, they give me peace, happiness, pleasure and most importantly,” he moved closer and khushi dropped her arms by her side, bewitched, “They make me feel good.” their breaths mingling, she couldn't look away from his eyes, “And nothing has ever made me feel so good.” Their nose were touching each other and he removed the distance until their lips were touching but he didn't kiss, he continued, “Can I own something as precious as your lips even if I'm not worthy enough?”

“Yo-u…” she took a deep breath and said, “You can kiss me anytime you want but you won't hurt them in anyway.” he smiled pleased at her reply.

“I won't.” he took hold of her hand and started walking into the woods. After five minutes, khushi saw a small house but a big garden full of flowers. She glanced at Arnav and then at the house, mesmerized.

He let her hand go and she instinctively started walking toward the garden and Arnav followed her. A smile broke on her lips as the fragile flower petals made contract with her soft fingers. She looked around with fascination, admiration and love. She whirled and met with brown eyes that were focused on her every move. She blushed and looked down. The sparrows were singing, she saw butterflies flying around and the big tree far away upon which something was hanging. She glanced at Arnav and then at the tree. He understood and grabbed her hand to show her what it was.

A swing? Her eyes widened as adrenalin pumped through her body. He dragged her near the tree and made her sit on the swing. He stood behind her and whispered bending to her level, “You like swinging?”

“yes, but I'm sca-red.” she replied, worried.

“Don't be scared, I will catch you if you fell.” he spoke softly.

“Just like you took the bullet for me?” she replied and he stood still. “NK told me…” she trailed off. “Why would you put your life in danger for a silly and dumb person like me? You realise I don't even understand your sense of humor? Even after knowing what you did for me I was ready to believe or to say believed that you were going to kill me…”

“Shhh, Don't talk ill about my girl…” he kissed her hairs.

she felt terrible and guilty. She literally thought, he would kill her but she was confused. She was still unsure about her status in his life. She was confused about his complex personality. She still didn't know why he marry her. She still thought he was dangerous and she have to save herself from him. But was she wrong? He loved his mother more than anyone and his mother hated her… she was not so far-sighted but her aunt did teach her to see or at least try to see what was store in the future. And it was her aunt's words that made her think about him. “Try to understand who you are in his life then make him understand what you ought to be…” But then her aunt was always deep and she most of the time misunderstood her.

Arnav found her lost and sighed. He sat on his knees in front of her and held her hands in his. “Where are you lost?”

“Do you feel guilty for anything? I mean do you have any regret?” she asked in low voice not knowing what was the propose of the question.

“I do!” she raised her eyebrows and he continued, “I regret marrying you the way I did. I am sorry…” khushi was now on the verge of crying.

“Who are you?” she questioned his identity, not understanding his so many covers.

“A guy you can call your admirer.” he smiled.

“I am still scared of you…” she confessed.

He sighed, “You should be.” she furrowed her brows at his reply, “I'm not exactly a good man, I will love you, hate you, admire you, worship you, please you but along with everything, I will hurt you…” Khushi gulped down the saliva and breathed in while he continued confessing, “Something is wrong with me. I am 28 year old man who has never kissed a woman before you, who has never had an actual relationship, who is still scared of marriage even after getting into this **** and I'm the guy you should fear. Without a doubt, khushi. And if you think I will hurt you, you're right. I'm a madman and never trust a madman because most of the time mad people prefer pain over pleasure.”

“Are you hungry?” he changed the subject cheerfully and it took seconds for khushi to reply. He grabbed her arm and took her inside the small house.

Sitting there in kitchen khushi wondered from where food came.

“Who cooked?” she asked looking at delicious food.

“Don't worry it's not poisonous.” he chuckled and khushi smiled nervously. “You still think I'm going to kill you?” she shook her head, “Then why are you nervous?”

“Nothing.” she said and dug into her plate.

They ate in silence until Arnav broke the ice, “What did your aunt told you?” khushi though startled by his sudden inquiry blushed and dare not to look up.

“She told me not to tell anyone…” she shrugged hoping that he would forget it.

He smirked, “So she told you about lovemaking?”

She glanced up surprised. “How-” she went silent not knowing what to say.

“Your aunt phoned me and told me what she advised you.” he joked.

“Did she really do that?” he rolled his eyes. Why was she so naive, anyway?

“Tell me what she told you other than. know...lovemaking?” he imitated her and she blushed harder.

“She...she-” khushi bite her lip.

“Chill khushi!” he chuckled.

She spoke looking at her plate, “She told me I should trust you once and give this marriage a you know try to understand you and stuff.”

“What did you decide, then?” he questioned staring at her face intently.

She looked at his face and fidget with the fabric of her shirt then again looked down and said, “I you.” he gazed at her for a long minute.

“I didn't know know..” he smirked.

“Why are you making fun of me?” she huffed, looking at him from the corner of her eyes.

“I'm not doing that,...You know…”

She gaped, “I hate you…”

“No you don't.” he held her hand, that was placed in her lap having a fight with her other hand, kissed it and pulled in his lap, swiftly.

“Your shoulder!” she gasped.

“Its not hurting now.” khushi looked at him unsure.

“My feet still hurt, how can you say that your shoulder doesn't?”

“Wow my wife is smart,” he said tucking the hair locks behind her ears. “You're fragile, I'm not. Bullets and I have a friendly relation. know,” he smirked as she glared at him. “Eat! Pretty woman!” he said offering to feed her and she ate, blushing.

Khushi started cleaning the table while Arnav went into what looked like room to khushi. She placed the dishes in the sink and was about to start cleaning them when he stopped her. “That's not your job, maid would do that.”

“But it's our-”

He put his finger on her lips, “Shh don't teach me know.” khushi didn't notice the teasing part this time, his finger on her lips has successfully distracted her. And she wondered what was wrong with her stomach?

Finding her lost, Arnav drew a breath and admired her.

Arnav caressed her chin and asked, “Have anyone ever kissed you before me, Khushi?” she shook her head. He took one step closer to her holding her waist, he stopped her from moving backwards. Their breaths mingled, he was that close to her. “How about if I make love to you?”

“She said-” she closed her eyes finding it difficult to speak when he was so close to her that she could feel his heartbeat, “-it would hurt a-t fi-rst.”

“It will...but it's worth it.”

She looked at him scared to death. According to information given by her aunt, it was dangerous and painful process. And she wondered why couples even do that?

“Come.” he softly dragged her in a room where a medium-sized bed was placed in the middle, a dressing table to its left and a small coffee table placed in the right corner. White curtains of probably cotton were hanging and a clock on the wall showing 2:30 p.m. they were out for 2 hours now.

He made her stand in the middle of the room and faced her.

“You said you trusted me…”

“I do.”

“I won't hurt you-” she glanced at him and he said, “-Never ****ually.”

“I'm scared.”

“Don't be.”

“I'll show you.” he moved away from her and turned the lights off. It was not dark because of the sunlight peeking through ventilator. “Sit on the bed.” she followed the instructions. “Take your shirt off,” his eyes fixed on her face as he said that.

He squatted in front of her and held her hands just like he did before in the garden under the tree. “Are you shy?” she nodded her head, he knew she was and they didn't even had to do all that but she needed to know that she was beautiful and perfect in his eyes. This was his way of showing affection. “Just shy?”

“I don't know. I think I'm imperfect and you will hate my body...And bua ji said husbands must love-”

“Don't stress!”

“There is something wrong with me too!” she stressed looking at her hands. “I like my face... But...I hate my body…”

“I will hate it too.”

“You have fu- freaking perfect body….hey!” he cupped her face. “Open your eyes….now tell me what's wrong.”

“I-You-I don't know.”

“Khushi...You won't regret it...I promise! If you want I will not touch you but just tell me what's bothering you?”

“Arnav!” she breathed and spoke, “I h-ave ug-ly sc-ars.” (I have ugly scars.)

He sat there in silence for a minute or two and she almost regretted telling him. Would he judge her and call her ugly?

Chapter#13 (B)

[Continued from: “Arnav!” she breathed and spoke, “I h-ave ug-ly sc-ars.” (I have ugly scars.)

He sat there in silence for a minute or two and she almost regretted telling him. Would he judge her and call her ugly?]

“So, what?” he shrugged, “Everyone have them!” he said as-a-matter-of-fact. But Khushi wasn’t sure what he really meant.

“You don’t understand!”

“I DO!”

“Not everyone has scars, my sister had none!” she said a bit irritated at his ignorance.

“Everyone has them, khushi. It’s a rule, to live, you must have scars. That’s the payment of breathing! some scars are visible and some invisible. but they are there!"

“I don’t understand, Arnav.”

Khushi blushed and hid her face in her hands when she saw Arnav taking his shirt off.

“Khushi…” she didn’t look at him. He shook his head and said “Fine I am leaving!”

“No, don’t!”

“Then, look at me!”

“I fe-el shy!” her hands fell in her lap but she dared not look at him.

He bent on her and laid her down on the bed. Khushi gasped, “What are you-“

“-Shhh! Don’t speak!” she looked at him nervously. His body was on top of hers and she felt his hands on her cheek as he said. “I want your eyes on me, khushi.” He moved his hands to her waist and caressed her skin. She looked in his eyes and felt all dizzy. What the hell was happening to her? Why was her stomach doing funny dances? She felt uncomfortably pleased. Maybe that’s what happens when a guy come closer to girl.

She was too lost in her own world to realize that he shirt was being taken off. When she realized, she did try to think of protesting but all in vain. She couldn’t utter a word as if words got stuck in her throat or maybe got buried somewhere in esophagus.

She closed her eyes as she felt his eyes on her half naked body.

He furrowed his brows. He turned her around, softly. He surprisingly found not a single scar.

“Hmm?” she replied softly. She at that moment felt no fear or shame.

“I don’t see any sacar, babe!” he said turning her to face him.

“What?” she frowned.

“Are you sure-“

“-off course I am! I saw them myself for years but…but…” she suddenly felt like crying.

“Khushi, calm down! Maybe it was just a delusion.”

“Are you saying, I am crazy?”

“No…no! off course not!” he rushed to explain, at that moment, khushi looked like a tiny child abandoned by world and waiting for a miracle. It was all stupid, Arnav thought, she was delusional about her own body. But how did the delusion come in her mind? If only he could read minds.

“There are scars, I saw and touch them.” She has now begun to cry and he laid beside her, cupped her face and kissed her tears away.

“Its okay! They are gone now. Isn’t it good that your ugly scars are gone?”

“You are lying! I can still see one under my right arm, on my back a big one and on my right tigh. I see them but you are lying to make me feel good. That’s what bua ji did. I know you are lying. All the people lie. You all are liars. I hate you. I hate bua ji. You all are cheaters…get away from me!” she went hysterical.

“NO! Khushi..” he held her arms trying to stop her from hitting him. He moved closer and placed his lips on hers. He kissed her until he felt she had surrendered. He broke the kiss and stare in her eyes. “Are you okay?” big tears rolled on her cheeks.

“I’m sorry! What was I saying?” he opened his mouth to repeat her words but decided otherwise.

“But I said something bad.”

“Nope, you didn’t!” he lied like a pro.

“then what did I say?” God why was she acting stubborn, suddenly? Wasn’t it easy to convince her? He wondered.

“You said something like this, “I feel shy!”.”

“Uh I remember!” she smiled shyly.

Thank heaven! Arnav thought, she was convinced, at least for now.

Few minutes ago, she was different person, and now she was different. He stared at her face and decided to let the matter go, for now.

He glanced at her ****s and wet his lips.

He wanted to touch her everywhere he could and make love to her. But knowing how unstable her psychological health was, he decided to give up the idea.

They lay there for a long time and fell asleep in each other’s arms.

Arnav woke up hearing doorbell. He looked at the clock and realized it was evening already and it must be HP. Probably worried. He carefully untangled himself from khushi and after wearing his shirt, he opened the door. It was HP.

“Are we staying here tonight?”

“Yeah, I guess!”

“Ali called. He was worried.” Arnav rolled his eyes. Ali, in particular, was always concerned for him. They both somehow shared the same pain of past but well he was a bit luckier than Arnav, though.

“Ask him if work is done? If yes then inform me.”

“He said, it is!”

“Then we are leaving.” He said and HP left. Arnav closed the door and went in the room to see khushi sleeping. He reluctantly called her, “Khushi, wake up!”

“Let me sleep, bua ji!” he chuckled.

“Nope, we have to go home babe. Its 5 pm already.” But she was snoring. He sighed. She seemed to him, so peaceful and delighted with her life. He felt like the cruelest person when he nudged her shoulders to wake her up. But the thing was important. He must be there.

He was still trying to wake her when the doorbell rang again.

He grabbed his gun on the way and open the door attentively, in case it was any of his enemy.

“It’s me!” came a voice. It was Ali, he sighed in relief.

“What the f*%k do you think you are doing here?” Arnav asked irritated. Couldn’t he wait for him to come home? He walked out with him instead of letting him in. khushi was in there and he respected her privacy too much to let a man in without her permission even if the man was his best friend.

“I needed to see you!” Ali replied and Arnav sensed something was off.

“What’s up with you?” he asked as they walk toward chairs arranged by HP for them, right in front of the room where khushi was asleep. He saw her sleeping peacefully from the corner of his eyes through the window.

“I have found out about khushi’s past.” He said seriously.

“And we are supposed to be in Delhi as soon as possible. There has been an attack at Raizada Mansion. Khanna’s son is after you for revenge!” he rolled his eyes, like father, like son.

“You are worried for this sh*t? When did you become this, Ali?” Ali shook his head hearing Arnav.

“I am not worried about us, I am worried about the girl lying in there” he said pointing towards house, “She is too good to be the part of THIS! And you know the rule of this business, we don’t hurt innocent in anyway,” he had a point, Arnav thought. It was not safe to take khushi back to Delhi.

He drew a deep breath, “Don’t worry, she is safe with me.”

“Are you sure about that?’

“Do you doubt my ability to protect her?” usually Arnav would never explain himself to anyone not even his mother but it was different with Ali. He knew too much to be left in dark.

“NO! I trust you. I am just worried. If anything happened to her, we all won’t be able to forgive ourselves. Its not just about you, Arnav.” Arnav raised his eyebrow. “You should have seen everyone, including your sister, that night. They were more worried for her than you and that was what drove your mom crazy.”

“What’s the point of telling me this?”

“Are you ****ually frustrated or you got laid bro?” Ali teased seeing Arnav angry. He was jealous of the fact that people other than him loved khushi… it was stupid to be jealous but he was.

“Really? You going to talk about my ****ual life now?”

“So you got-“

“-stop assuming stuff Ali or I’m going to beat you up really bad.”

“Look, I am just trying to help… alright! But you can get tips from experienced men, though!” he winked, grinning ear to ear.

“Talk about business or get out!” yes Ali was right, he was frustrated and he wasn’t helping in anyway.

“Let’s start with khushi, Khanna can wait.”

“So, first I met up with almost every old person in the village, as a private investigator, research through old newspapers afterwards and met up with the old poor doctor. people are so simple man. khushi grew up between them, we can't blame her for being this naive!” He stared at Arnav and said, “I met with her family. They thankfully didn’t recognize me and talked to me really well like they would with private investigator.”

“So?” Arnav asked impatiently.

“Are you sure you want to know?” Ali was dead serious and it intimidated Arnav. No please dear God, if you exist somewhere, tell him, khushi wasn’t ****ually assaulted. “Don’t worry, she was safe throughout her life but it involves your parents. You father.” Ali said carefully, he knew Arnav had always avoided this side of his life. “Not directly, though. I just found something you might not know.”

Arnav nodded his head, for khushi, he could do this.

“Your mother and khushi’s mother had a fight, do you have any idea about what?”

“Nope, mom never said anything about it.” He shrugged.

“It was because Mira, I think I can call her aunty, was kind of social worker and your mother didn’t like it.”

“I don’t think that was the reason.”

“Your mother got to know your father’s secret muse for Madam Mira which he never revealed to anyone not even the woman herself.” Finally, he said what he had been anxious to say.

“I know that!” Arnav replied staring at his feet.

“Mira aunty was fighting for a girl’s rights with her husband. Well, she was gang raped by unknown gang and Mrs. Gupta decided it was her duty to defend a victim. They first killed her husband and then her, like we KILL PEOPLE, right in front of khushi’s eyes. She survived miraculously. But she doesn’t remember anything probably because of some brain damage.” He stared at Arnav’s face to read his expression. He was lost.

“It must have been a terrible experience.” He finally spoke after few minutes and Ali nodded his head.

“You sure you are not mad about your father’s muse?”

“Guess what? I once upon a time had a crush on Mira Gupta too. He was my father after all.” Ali shook his head.

“And then you married her daughter!”

“She was an amazing woman. Aesthetically pleasing! You could get lost in the sound of her laughter. She was step sister of my mom. They both loved each other and they were both exactly opposite to each other. Imran was one lucky man even if he was poor. She was always proud of him. She was proud of khushi. She was proud of me. The days I spent with her were the best days…”

“Didn’t know you were into old women!”

“She was young back then.”

“Still you were not hardly fifteen, Arnav.”

Arnav shrugged. “I doubt people who claim to have had a control on their life in their teen years.”

“I’ve had a crush on my father’s mistress too. I don’t think it’s a big deal. Humans just love guilty pleasures, I guess.” Arnav was about to open his mouth to answer when he saw khushi on the door.

“Hi, Ali.” She waved at him, grinning. He smiled and waved back.

When did that happen? Arnav thought. Wasn’t khushi scared of Ali like she was of him? Ali walked up to her and they joined hands to shake. He kissed the back of her palm and could hear her giggling. He felt jealous even though it was stupid.

“Ali,” Arnav walked up to them and said, “It’s time for you to leave.” He gritted his teeth.

“What? But khushi invited me for dinner.”

“Yeah let him in!” khushi cheered excitedly but before he could take a step towards threshold of main door, he was pulled back by Arnav. He dragged him away from khushi and the house. Khushi stood there confused, watching annoyed Arnav and grinning Ali walking.

“Get out.”

“-I will take care of khushi you all will take care of Khanna very well.”

“okay. But-“

“-now what?”

“If you get laid, just text me.” He winked and Arnav threw a punch in his stomach, “f*ck!”

“What are you doing?” he heard khushi’s voice from the distance.

“I am telling you Ali, go.”

“Fine! But I think khushi is in good mood tonight.” He grinned and Arnav wanted to smack his face but he ran away before khushi reached there.

“Are you alright?” khushi asked him when she found his fingers curled and jaws clenched.

“Can I make love to you?” maybe, he thought, Ali was right, khushi did seem to be in good mood.

“Sure.” She looked down blushing, “I… I trust you.”

In a blink, he connected his lips with hers and kissed her not gently like he did before. It was different, it showed another cover of him: the passionate lover.

He broke the kiss, held her hand and dragged her inside the house. He closed the door behind forcefully and HP got his hint. He decided to leave them alone for some time.

Adrenaline pumped through his body and he felt like he was going back in his teenage years and now he has no control on his own life anymore.

Beautiful Pain next part is up. (By Farakhan) (Thanked: 44 times)

Chapter 14

After she fell asleep, he cleaned her up gently, dressed  her and laid beside her. He stared at face and thought, her face was brighter than moon; her lips softer than rose petals; her eyes, he had seen them shining brighter than stars; her hairs, they were so thick and long and soft that he wanted to kiss them, bury himself in  those long, thick locks and he wanted to sit up and count her hair and he told himself he wouldn’t be tired of doing so. Would he? No but as long as she wasn’t watching him.

Whenever she gazed at him, it made him nervous. He MADE PEOPLE NERVOUS DAMN! He sometimes felt angry and other times he just wanted to cuddle her and at that very moment he wanted to bury himself in her kind, warm embrace. He wanted her to caress his skin, touch his hair with her soft, delicate fingers, laugh at him, and kiss him just like how he kissed her.

But she was sleeping like a peaceful angel.

He dare not to move in the fear that she may lose her peace because of him. A sinner like him can’t be grateful enough for having her in his life. She smiled in her sleep and in that moment he promised himself, he would protect her from himself and from every single danger around her.

Maybe this way he would be able to show his gratefulness to that invisible God who gave her to him. By protecting her.

But wasn’t he the reason that dangers would run around her? She would have been happy with her life in a small pot like village but the he just couldn’t imagine anymore. It was all meant to be. Just like everything happened in the past, it was all pre-planned.

He placed his head on her bosoms and heard the sound of her heart beating. It was a hope. Her being alive was a miracle and him being in her arms was a sign that it was always supposed to be like that.

She stirred in her sleep and he woke up, startled.

“You are up!” he held her chin in his two finger and khushi parted her lips to say something but felt shyness taking control of senses. What was she supposed to say?

“I...uhmm...I am thirsty.” khushi said trying to act all confident. She wondered how she was all dressed and then the fact that he dressed her up made her overwhelmingly happy and gushy. Yes she felt like gushing about their very excited encounter and tell everyone how he loved her.

As the glass touched her lower lip, khushi pulled herself out of her gushy world. She drank water from his hand.

“How do you feel? Does it hurt? Did I hurt you khushi?”

“No, I...I am okay.”she smiled seeing his concern. His reaction was just how Buaji has described her. But he was more worried and careful than her bua ji’s version of Arnav Singh Raizada. Like Bua ji said he wouldn’t touch her without permission, she was right about it. And she said he would wake her up gently but he didn’t do that. And also her bua ji didn’t mention anywhere that he would clean her sweat stained body, he would dress her up, ask her gently how she felt. It was all unreal.

She would, perhaps, ask her aunt about it.

“Are you hungry?” he said getting off her half lying body and she instantly felt empty. She needed him right there.

“No,” she said pushing hair locks behind her ears.

“We are leaving in few minutes khushi, so you better eat!” he climbed out of bed and started checking his phone.

“Where are we going?”

“Where you want to go?”

‘In your arms!’ she thought but said hesitantly, “BUA JI.” it was a whisper but he heard it.

“Don’t tell me you are gonna tell her everything about our first ****ual encounter.” khushi wanted the earth to swallow her. She felt that shy!

“It shouldn’t bother you!” khushi said trying to act cool. Seeing him so closer has made her braver. She could always pretend to be cool even if she wasn’t cool.

“Promise me you won’t tell anyone about it?” he came up to her and sat in front of her on the bed.

“But bua-”

“Fine, you can tell your bua ji but not ANYONE ELSE!”

“Okay.” khushi said

“Let’s go.” he said getting up.

“But food?”

“Your bua ji will feed you. Won’t she?”

“And you?”

“I can feed myself, now hurry up!”

After dropping her to her bua ji’s house, Arnav settled in the car waiting for his friends near Gupta house leaving hp to keep an eye on the surroundings.

“ what’s the plan.” a feminine voice surprised him.

“What you doing here?”

“I am back ASR. the work is completed in Mumbai. We are safe!”

“Lavanya…” he looked in her eyes and said coldly, “Welcome Back.” she smiled. When ASR said something of that sort it meant he was happy with your efforts.

“Can we talk about important stuff.” Ali started anxiously .

“Sure. Ali is unimportant first drop him out of here.” Ali ignored her taunt and rolled his eyes.

“It’s not safe for khushi to stay here so I will not be around for few hours or maybe days, it depends on situation. You all have to deal with khanna. You find him, kill him, burn his body to ashes, kill all his loyalist, and keep those who are ready to submit.” he turned to Akash, “You keep the squad united, I leave you in charge.”

Everyone was dead serious, their eyes burning with flame of anger and revenge.

“ASR, can’t believe this, for a woman you are leaving business?”

“She is his wife!” Ali said irritated.

“Lavanya the woman is my f)king bride, you disrespect her and die.” and she knew khushi wasn’t ordinary woman after all.

Suddenly an urge to meet khushi aroused in her heart. Who was she that he was so whipped?

“Can I see her?” she asked coolly like she forgot that he basically threatened her for this woman.

Arnav didn’t answer instead they all waited for her, standing in the middle of the street, people were scared of them and decided not to use the street. They still remember what they did to poor Gupta family and khushi and what happened to Mira Gupta was another example.

Khushi walked out smiling and waved back at her aunt. Everyone stood straight, seeing her. She smiled at them.

“What are you doing here?” she asked with her eyes wide.

“Planning a mass murder.” Ali joked and khushi slapped him playfully on his hand.

“Stop talking evil in front of me.” she smiled wider seeing Arnav, her cheeked burned with reddish affect.

“Sure. there is someone who thinks she is very cool, would like to meet you.” Ali said and other stifle their laughs except arnav. He was thinking about something else.

“Hi,” Khushi shook her hand with Lavanya.

“Did you both had ****?” she asked smiling and khushi turned red with embarrassment. This gave Lavanya her answer and she continued. “We both had had **** too, you know, I and Arnav!” she winked at khushi and the redness of her cheeks was replaced with paleness and smile froze on her lips.

She looked at everyone’s scared faces and turned her gaze toward her husband who stood in complete silence.

Beautiful Pain next part is up. (By Farakhan) (Thanked: 27 times)

I Have an important announcement to make: I MADE this story up and YOU DONT TAKE IT SERIOUSLY. ALL the content is fictional, events, places, rules, everything is fictional. THANK YOU!

Chapter 15 (ignore typos please)

“Khushi…” but she wouldn’t talk and would not even look at him. She has not talked for 39 minutes and 2 seconds. Yes, he was counting seconds. Her silence was something he detested. It was all his fault, he should have known that lavanya would do something of that sort. He has been too busy in his own fancy land to worry about real world. He should have told khushi that he wasn’t virgin and he has told her. Didn’t he?

“Come on!” HP was driving and they were moving to a safer place. He didn’t want to use harsh tone, he can’t do that not after what they shared yesterday. It was all too beautiful to be ruined by his short temper. He was gonna have some self control. He gently pulled her to himself, she was facing the black window.

He saw her crying and he, for the first time, felt like crying along. .

He cupped her face and she sobbed, “I am sorry! Okay come one it was just-”

“She touched you like i touched you and you think it was nothing!”

“It was nothing.” i say with firmness. It was nothing. It was like friends with benefit type of a thing. Lavanya didn’t care about it nor he thought of ever getting married. It was all unplanned, fretting about it was stupid.

“What if I- I do something of that sort.” she wiped her tears like a little child and hiccuped and instead of getting angry, Arnav felt he was falling harder in love.

“Well i would take it as a punishment, if you think i deserve that.” she looked at him from the corner of her eyes as his hands slipped to her shoulders from her cheeks and he continued. “But think of it this way: we both met a few days ago and we were perfect stranger before that-”

“Bua ji says you knew me!”

“Your bua ji makes up stories!”

“No she doesn’t! I…I won’t talk to you if you insult my bua ji.” she turned her face away from him, huffing.

“Fine! can I continue now?” she stayed silent and unmoved and he took it as a sign to continue, “And our lives were different, you and I were someone else and now all of a sudden, you can say, because of me, we are related. You have a right on me and i will never deny that but it was different when you were not here. I was free to sleep with anyone but that doesn’t mean I would do that after I am committed to you. And I wouldn’t care about it if you were a virgin or not, it just doesn’t matter. To me, you matter and its just that I am not as good as you are but that doesn’t mean I don’t deserve anything. Does it?”

“You won’t ever sleep with her, will you?” she asked in a tiny voice still looking at his face through the corner of her eyes.

“I will never!”

“And with no other-”

“Yes! No other woman!”

Khushi turned to face him completely and then looked in his fascinating eyes, “And when I die, you will still not touch any other woman?” he was amused to an extent that he couldn’t hide his smile. He cupped her chin and slowly moved his upper body nearer to hers.

“I would go into complete celibacy after you die.” as he said that he felt like he was dealing with not his wife but 3 year old khushi in his arms adamant to eat jalebies.

“Promise?” she pulled out her pinky finger and he stared at it for a second or more before he joined his finger with her.

“If you break the promise, I will come back to haunt you in your dreams.”

“Sure!” he laughed.

“Will you smile, Ali?” Lavanya pinched his shoulder and he groaned.

“Would you stop bothering me?”

“Sure! If you stop fretting about my little affair.”

“I told you I’m not fretting.”

“Then why are you so quiet?”

“When did you become my mother?”

“GUYS!” Amit interrupted their little talk. “Darling why don’t you let him be. He’s been quiet for a while now. Lets forget it.”

“I am not forgetting it, he has to answer.”

“That’s why Anji hates you!” Shyam interpreted drinking soda, “You always have to butt in others matter.”

But lavanya would not give up. Amit and Akash who spoke less were a bit taken aback by sudden quietness of him as well. “Is everything okay? Lavanya is right, you have been awfully quiet since last night.”

“I am okay.” he said and Lavanya rolled her eyes.

“If you are worried about tiny little queen of ours then don’t be! ASR would take care of her. He probably has solved every matter by no-” then suddenly she went silent. Ali was driving and was on passenger seat, others were in back seats. She held his arm which laid beside him over the gear. “Its going to be okay, Ali.” she whispered and he nodded. He was going to be okay, at least that’s what he liked to think.

everyone was just ignorant of this affair except Akash. there has to be something wrong, he thought.

“Where are we going?” Khushi asked yawning as she laid on his shoulder. Its been an hour since HP was driving.

“To a safer place.”

“Someone would love to devour on your dead body.” khushi sat up awake.

“I- I don’t have any enemy.” she shuttered.

“I have and since I have enemies, you have them too.” he stared at her worried face and sighed. “Khushi. No one can harm you, alright?”

She kept quiet.

“You trust me?” she nodded slowly, “Then say goodbye to worry.”

And she did. He was just so magical that she couldn’t remember worrying.

The car stopped in few minutes and Arnav took khushi inside another isolated old house, into the woods. She held his hand tighter.

The house was bigger than the previous one like it was a small haveli. There were paintings hung on the wall and it was clean like someone who lived here before they arrived. “Who lived here?” khushi asked mesmerized by the perfect setting of the house.

“Someone I know.” he replied. “Go on take a shower, you look tired.”

“Are you going somewhere?”

“I am going nowhere leaving you, okay?”

When he could tell that water was running down and khushi was taking shower, he dialed Akash’s number.

“Akash what’s up?”

“Its drama free.”

“Keep me updated.”

“Sure. Uh lavanya is saying hello.” Arnav rolled his eyes. He wasn’t mad at her, it was just her nature to be who she was. The reality was that she was against the way he married khushi. She thought, khushi was too good to stay with him or whatever. her wway of showing affection for people was abnormal just like "Hellos".

“I want it to be finished today Akash. If I am needed, you don’t hesitate, alright?”

Arnav saw khushi getting out of washroom, “Okay, will see you then.”

“Are you really gonna mass murder?” she swallowed a lump formed in her parched throat.

“Why?” she didn’t blink because she wanted tears to evaporate than to flow but they flowed anyway.

“If we don’t kill, we die.”

And that’s when the painful realization hit her, her prince charming, with beautiful deep oceanic eyes and soft lips and tender hands and lovely smile and with perfect manners of love making, was, in fact, a murderer. A bloody killer. The type of man whose name women use to scare their children.

Was she supposed to love him? Or hate him? Her thoughts fragmented at the name of Arnav...

Does anyone of you have read Munchi Prem Chand's novels? I really, really want to read them. I have read one of his short story named, "Chirag ki lou" it was in urdu. he later switched to hindi language but to me he is fascinating as hell. his books are darker than you can imagine but they aren't dark about ****ual content. they are focused on people living in the places we would never go, places we can't imagine to live, people we would never meet, spirits that went into vain and love wasted over the years. i don't know what i am even talking about but I have recently, after reading Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi's short stories (Afsaane!), have developed a deep love for south asian literature. its beautiful and it is us, collectively. I don't know how to read Hindi (even though i am going to learn it), but i would read the urdu translations.

you don't mind my rants about literature, do you?

thank you for reading and please comment!

Beautiful Pain next part is up. (By Farakhan) (Thanked: 33 times)

**Spoiler Alert** its a romantic chapter :* but surprise awaits ;-)

Chapter 16

“Hello ASR, work is done!” he should be happy right? It was his victory...but seeing khushi so quiet for hours made him sad. He has no idea why it mattered what she thought of him, but it did matter...her opinion mattered a great deal to him.

“Are you there?” he heard Lavanya and sighed.

“Yeah...its great. Yeah. see you soon.” he cut the call without hearing more.

“He seemed off.”

“Yeah now you gonna bother him too?” Shyam said annoyed.

“I trust Lavanya more in this matter.” Ankit said sipping tea.

“Will you stop your ****?” Akash said irritated. Were they 12 year old or what?

They all went silent.

“Where is ALI?” Akash broke the silence.

“He left saying he had some work nearby.” NK shrugged.

“Where did he go?” Lavanya asked frowning.

“He didn’t tell anything.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?” Lavanya asked flabbergasted.

“Excuse us, you aren’t boss here. Akash is.” Shyam rolled his eyes.

“Will you all stop acting like children?” Lavanya said getting up. “I am off for now, Akash, if you won’t mind.” She grabbed her bag and cup of tea and started walking away hurriedly

“What’s wrong with her?”

“It’s about Ali, ya know!” NK sipped his tea watching lavanya go.

“Wait! She hates him?” Shyam choked on his tea.

Everyone rolled their eyes. “Di is right jija ji. You really are dumb.” said Akaash and everyone burst in fits of laughter.

“Ammi!” he choked seeing his half dead mother lying on the bed, smiling at him like an angel she was. He started crying, his head laid near her shoulder. “You can’t die. Ammi you can’t!” he cried like a child. Just how he had cried years ago when his father left them forever and he had run after his bus until his feet bled. But he could not reach him then and now seeing his mother dying felt like she was in that same bus and he was running after it but he knew he would fail. And the failure hurt!

“I am tired Alli, let me go. You will be fine.” no he wouldn’t be fine. He needed her like oxygen. She was his angel. She was his saviour. His mother. He sobbed.

He looked up as he felt her hand in his hairs. He looked in her tired old eyes, she was not sad like him. It was as if she was laughing from inside. Like she was getting what she has always wanted. “I am in there.” she pointed at his heart and that’s the last thing she told him and breathed her last. Her eyes were still twinkling and a small smile was playing on her lips. He watched her die, helplessly. Crying like a child, he stared at her stoned face.

“Mr. khan…” the doctor looked at him sympathetically but he didn’t care. Not today. It was saddest day of his life and he was too overwhelmed to care for anyone.

“Don’t take her away.” he held on to his mother like she would wake up any minute and kiss his forehead and tell him how much she missed him and that she prepared halwa for him and his favourite Allo ka paratha. But she didn’t wake up. She was gone, forever.

“We can’t keep a cancerous patient in here. It’s time to start preparations for her funeral.” the doctor was a woman and a part of her felt overwhelmed with sorrow. He was a stranger but he was so much in pain.

“I understand.” he said and wiped his tears with the back of his hands. He looked at his mother’s face one last time before leaving his mother so they would clean her up and he went to built her new house. He sighed. He has just become an orphan. All alone!

His phone rang, “Lavanya” flashed on the screen. He cut the call and turned it off.

Lavanya stared at her phone and sighed. He was so stubborn. He would never open up, would he? She took a deep breath and decided to find him all by herself. Or at least she could try.

For two hour she tried to get contact with him or try any other mean to know where he was but failed. His sim was not detectable. He wasn’t wearing their gang chip. He wasn’t in entire delhi!

“Do you have any idea about where Ali lives or his mother?” she asked all the five men but none of them knew exactly where Ali’s mother lived. It was a rule to conceal your loved ones identity and whereabouts for their safety. Ali has a mother, everyone knew that but who she was, how she looked like, where she lived, was unknown to them all.

“But ASR may know about it.”

She then called ASR but he chose to ignore her calls too.

“**** you all!” she angrily marched out of haveli where she had come to see if Ali was here.

“Khushi...dinner is ready.” he called her softly, scared that she may look at him with hate, he dare not look in her eyes.

“I am not hungry.” came her soft reply from beneath the sheets. She was lying on the bed with all the blankets around her. He has no idea what kind of thinking position it was but he didn’t question her.

She suddenly sat up and her eyes were red. He realized, she has been crying for hours now.

“Khushi…” he whispered breathlessly. He sat on the bed right in front of her and cupped her cheeks. “Why are you crying?”

“I miss my mother. And i don’t remember how she looked like. I am such a bad child.” she confessed sobbing. “It’s their death anniversary.” she said in a small voice. “I forgot it too…”

“It’s not your fault!” he kissed her forehead and climbing on the bed, he sat beside her and side hugged her. “My precious queen!” he kissed her hairs again and again, playing with her small fingers. He sat in silence till he could find nicer words.

“They hate me, don’t they?” she asked with hope in her voice that he would soothe her insecurities down.

“No they don’t. They are watching you with love.”

“Are they?”

“How do you know that?”

“Close your eyes...I will explain you how I know.” he said and khushi closed her eyes, “Imagine you are lying under the sky.” she was under the open sky in her parent’s courtyard. “Look up at the stars that shine the most.” she randomly imagined there were stars staring back at her. “The stars that shine the most are your parents staring back at you!”

“Yes! Yes! They are there!” she said with a sudden rush of excitement in her voice and he swallowed a lump formed in his throat. She was so divine and beautiful that it made him cry. He blinked his eyes and wiped the corner of his eyes.

“You are so good Arnav unlike the villain in the movies. You kill people but...but...but you are so good.”

“I am not good!” he said firmly.

“You are…” she said looking at him from the corner of her eyes.

“I kill people and I earn money from it.” he felt the rush to explain her everything. She deserved to know everything about this thing. No matter what. She can then hate him or whatever. “You know, I run illegal fighting rings, gamblings, clubs and so on. And we kill people who come in our way. I can write a book about 200,000 different ways to kill people. I am THAT heartless.”

Their eyes locked with each other.

He was ready to hear a ‘I hate you!’ from her but her hand reached his jaws, she traced it with her soft fingers and Arnav felt a rush of emotions passing through his body.

*imagine rabba vey playing in the background*

Her fingers moved to his lips, their eyes locked. She slowly moved closer to his face and pressed her fingers on his lips, he didn’t blink, he was thrilled.

“For me, You Are Perfect!” If he had not mastered the art of hiding emotions, he would have burst in tears like rain pours out, all of a sudden, from the black smoky clouds. He felt loved. He, for the first time in his life, felt he was worth something and he was wanted. He wasn’t abandoned. She thought he was a perfect man in her eyes just like that, right? But ask Arnav how important these words were for him. Just a week ago he thought he was going to die alone and that no woman would ever find - what they call - “beauty” in him but this woman, he knew only for few days, thought he was perfect in her eyes. And she wasn’t lying. He couldn’t accuse her of trying to “manipulate” his mind. She was there clear as more than crystal.

she confessed what she felt he deserved to know. He was not heartless for her, he was her prince charming. Moreover bua ji said, prince charming in real life were different but they loved and cared like prince from beauty and the beast. And he loved and cared like a real prince charming so he was perfect.

Her fingers stayed on his lips and they both stared in each other’s eyes without moving until his phone rang and he furrowed his brows seeing unknown number. Khushi blushed as she realized what she did a minute ago. She pulled her hand back and turned her face away from him just to hide her blush.

“Ali?” khushi looked at Arnav startled. “Where are you? Wait… are you crying?”

Ali: Can you come to Lucknow….

Arnav: Yes. Are you alright?

Ali: No. I am not.

Arnav: I will be there.

Ali: Don’t...don’t leave khushi alone...there are some of khanna’s man out there who escaped us.

Arnav heard his voice cracking so many times that he became worried.

Arnav: khushi is safe and we will be there. At your mother’s house? See you then.

Arnav turned to see worried khushi. “We are going to Lucknow!”

“Ali isn’t fine.”

“I can stay with my bua ji. You go…” she said and he furrowed his brows.

“No...its not safe and I don’t trust anyone with your life.” he kissed the side of her head.

“You think my bua ji would hurt me?” she asked a bit angry at his harsh attitude toward her bua ji.

“No but with you her life will be on risk too!” she blinked her eyes twice and nodded her head.

“To Lucknow!” he told HP, who immediately started the drive. “Do it fast, HP. Faster than you ever drove.” and he took every possible shortcut he could find.

His phone rang and it was Lavanya. He chose to ignore it but khushi insisted, it maybe important.

“YOU HAVE A PHONE AND YOU F’CKING ATTEND IT!” he didn’t reply and waited for her to continue, “Where is Ali? Do you have any idea?”

“Did he not contact you?”

“It means he wants to be left alone.”

“No. he can’t be left alone! He needs someone.” Lavanya didn’t want to sound clingy or whatsoever but she felt protective for Ali. he was the most amazing man she had known.

“Lavanya, why do you care?” he asked calmly.

“Of course I care. He is...he is a friend.”

“I will take care of things. So chill.” khushi stared at his face as he talked. HP was driving in full speed and khushi didn’t feel scared because she was so lost exploring his eyes that change colors as he spoke.

“ASR you know where he is, don’t you?”

“And you are going to see him?”

“Wait for me, I have to see him too!”

“With his permission, sure!”

“He would never want me there.”

“Then you aren’t needed.” he heard her sigh.

“Goodnight!” he cut the call and khushi tore her gaze only to realize that their car was literally flying.

“Calm down!” he held her in his arms tightly. She did calm down.

“What...what did she say?”

“Asked about Ali.”

“What about him?”

“He has lost his mother, khushi.” the moment he said that khushi forgot her fear and sat straight, anxiously.

“He must be sad!” her eyes filled up.

“How do you know….did he tell you?”

He shook his head, “No, nothing could have broken him except his mother. He loved her dearly.” khushi bite her lips. She was sad.

They reached in Lucknow in half time than usual.

HP took them directly to the graveyard where the final prayer was performed already and now they were lying her in her grave. Khushi stood beside Arnav, crying. She watched the woman being taken in dark grave, no fan, no light, not even her son….how unfortunate, her innocent brain articulated and she kept on crying like it was her very own mother who died. But weren’t all mothers same? You love them all alike, that’s what bua ji said. Arnav handed her handkerchief and she wiped her flowing nose.

They all started throwing clay on the grave chanting prayers. Ali was praying along and khushi wondered what they were saying.

“Its their religious prayer, means Allah is greatest.” Arnav replied seeing her confused face.

“What is Al- that you said?”

“Ali is Muslim, khushi.” he rolled his eyes.

“How do you know?”

“He is my best friend.” the voices became louder and louder and it made khushi cry even more. Oh she was now hidden under dirt. How sad! After few minutes everyone dispersed saying few words of kindness to Ali. he was like the most broken man on earth. When everyone left, Khushi ran up to him and hugged him.

“Oh Ali, its so unfortunate and sad!” she cried and he gulped. No he wouldn’t cry in front of her fresh grave. It was considered bad to cry in front of the grave, it would hurt his mother’s soul.

“Yeah, its sad but don’t cry in front of her grave. It would hurt her soul.” he said and khushi broke hug.

“Oh I am sorry..” she hiccuped. She wiped her tears.

“Let’s get out of here.”

They started walking out of the graveyard and khushi kept glancing back at the grave, chanting “sorry” as if Ali’s mother would get up from her grave to tell her it was okay.

“How do you know it would hurt her soul? Isn’t she dead?”

“Yes she is dead but her soul is alive. Its immortal.”

“Does that mean my parents are alive too?”

Ali felt tears welling up in his eyes, khushi has witnessed worst than him. He bite his lower lip and glanced at Arnav who was silent all the while. His eyes said it all.

“Yes, they are, alive. But you can’t see them.”

“Yes! Arnav told me they were stars now. The ones that shine the most.” Ali smiled. She was such an angel!

“Yeah he must be right…”

“I am so sad, Ali. Your mother must have been an angel who gave birth to you. I am so sorry, she died. Bua ji says all the good and brave people die soon leaving a legacy behind. Don’t worry your mother left her footprints on your heart. They would shine when you would be alone or sad or tired...And I am your friend, you can tell me all your secrets.” both Ali and Arnav stared at her face with admiration.

“Yes, she was an angel. This world didn’t deserve her anyway. She is better off dead.”

“Why do you say that?”

“Let’s go home.” Arnav spoke changing the subject and they all drove to Ali’s place….

Beautiful Pain next part is up. (By Farakhan) (Thanked: 28 times)

Especially dedicated to @Kpoonam, thank you darling for loving my fictions but I am very sorry for the late updates. This semester is full of work, assignments, presentations and quiz :/ And now my exams are starting from 15th of December but don't worry I will try my best to update once a week!

Chapter# 17

Upon entering Ali’s tiny garden, they met a young woman with her hair in braid and her face emotionless but her eyes were teary.

“Who is she?” Khushi whispered to Arnav.

“His lover!”

“His WHAT?” Khushi gasped.

“Shut your mouth Darling!” Said Arnav quietly as they neared the girl. Ali tensed beside him.

The girl glanced at Ali, Arnav and her gaze stopped at khushi’s face. She stared at her for a minute before extending her hand and greeting her with a smile, ignoring both Ali and Arnav.

Khushi smiled. “My name is Khushi.”

“Nice name,” she faked a smile.

“What is your name?” Khushi frowned.

“Come on in!” she ushered Khushi inside, Arnav and Ali followed them.

“You okay?” Arnav inquired as they strolled inside the small corridor of Ali’s mother’s house.

“No.” Ali said in a croaked voice.

“I’m not ready to face her.” They both found Khushi sitting in a very decorative living room with two entrance doors (one through which they walked in and other opposite to it, leading to the courtyard-like dining hall around which were three rooms, one kitchen and a bathroom), it had sceneries on every bit of wall, not to forget a big wall alarm clock hung on the front wall. There were twelve chairs along with two settees arranged along the walls and a table in the middle of room with flowerless flower pot on it and an empty tissue paper box. The room was clean as if the owner had just cleaned for guests but…the owner was dead.

“Maryam went to fetch something from her mother’s room.” Khushi said as they both sat on chairs.

That very moment Maryam walked in, this time her eyes were fixed on Ali who suddenly found old Persian carpet very interesting.

“Can we talk, Ali? If, of course, Mr. Raizada won’t mind…” she added sarcastically and glared at Arnav who rolled his eyes in response.

Ali followed her without questioning. She climbed the stairs and stopped in the middle of open yard, letting the air pass through her braided hairs.. Ali stared at her with his heart in his throat.

He took small, baby steps and neared her until there were few steps left.

“Who is the girl?” she asked, her voice sweet but her tone commanding just the way she has been.  Ali frowned and then sighed understanding her point.

“Arnav’s wife.”

“How come that prick got a bride? No family in their right mind would associate themselves with him. He is just-”

“-are you here to talk about Arnav?” he cut her off. He was dying to know what was in her head.

“Yeahh…right…I…” and to Ali’s horror, she burst into tears, something she rarely ever did. He rushed to hold her but his hands stopped in the air. He became a statue. He gulped and placed his hand on her head. She threw herself in his arm, crying her heart out.

“Why...She…was improving…she…” she hiccupped. Ali had no idea what to say. His mother had died too and he was as miserable as her or maybe more.

She wiped her face after a minute or two, breaking the hug, she looked directly in his eyes and said, “I’m sorry.”

“For what?” he asked with clenched jaws. If she was here to pity him then he didn’t need her.

“For your loss…I understand how you feel…”

“Thanks.” He cut her short.

“What did she…say before…dying?”

“Nothing…” he lied.

“You still don’t know how to lie.” He suddenly hated her for knowing him too well.

“Is this what you want to talk about? Is this why you are here?” he said angrily.

“This is MY house too, Mr. Khan.” She retorted with equal temper.

“Fine. I will be leaving YOUR house.” He gritted his teeth.

“Ali,” Maryam took a deep breath, calming her nerves, she continued, “I’m here for you.”

It took Ali a complete minute to understand what she said and that moment they gazed at each other with their jaws clenched and hearts filled with thousands of unknown emotions.

Maryam broke the silence, “I was here two days ago, to meet ammi, she was fine. She helped me cook us dinner and she told me, she missed you and me. I told her, my exams were going to be over in two weeks, I would be here with her.” Her voice choked, holding her sobs back, she continued, “She told me, ‘I don’t need you or him anymore,’ ‘why? Are you tired of me?’ I said and she laughed like how she laughed when she was happy and then she stopped suddenly, she held my hands and made me look in her eyes, she said…” Maryam wiped her tears and said, “She said, ‘Ali needs you.’” And she went silent after that.

For minutes they stood in silence, both crying for the loss.

Maryam wiped her face with her shawl that hung freely on her shoulder and removed the distance between them, “Do you really need me?” she asked, their bodies brushing against each other.

“You want the truth?” she nodded and he said, “Why does it matter? You never care about what I need, do you? You just always care about what I do, what kind of people I hang out with and blah, blah blah.”

“That’s me and you know me but you still choose to love me!” he hated her for being f++king confident and arrogant. Her big greenish grey eyes stared at him intently. “I have decided to give you a chance.”

“Are you pitying me? No thank you! I don’t need your sympathies…” he jerked himself away from her but she held him back. She cupped his jaws and he furrowed his brows. What was she doing? His question was answered when he felt her soft, full lips on his wet mouth. He closed his eyes, suddenly feeling anything but sad. He clutched her waist and kissed her back just like how they had kissed on her sixteenth birthday. Their tongues clashed with each other for domination until they were too breathless to fight and broke the kiss.

She touched his slightly swollen lower lip with her index finger and said, “I want you to answer my question.”

“Everything YOU WANT!” He shouted and her hand jerked back to her her side.

“Yes, you will give me everything I want! Because, You are mine, Ali!”

“Your toy to play with…”

“That’s not my answer…”

“Yes! Yes! I f**king need you! even though I know you will hurt me, I still love you. Now you can feed your ego-” but he was cut off by her as she captured his lips for another kiss.

They kissed for a minute before Maryam broke away and held his face close to hers, caressing his cheeks, their breaths mingling and tears rolled on her cheeks, “I am here,” she hiccupped but refused to break their eye-contact, “Because, I need you too!” he stood there motionless and realized how much he still loved her and how right she was when she said he was hers.

“Arnav Ji.”

“Won’t Ali mind, we are using his house without his permission?” Khushi asked anxiously as he laid her on the bed in one of Ali’s bedroom.

“Are you su-“

“Yes, I am.” He said tucking her in, “Sleep. Baby girl, we are leaving early tomorrow.”

“where are you going?” she asked as he moved away from her side.

“Right beside you.” He said climbing on the old bed and laid beside her.

“Good night!” Khushi said yawning.

“Night!” he replied absentmindedly. He closed his eyes thinking about Ali and Maryam and what would happen when Lavanya would know about it. He felt guilty for not warning Lavanya before but he never noticed anything romantic between them nor did Ali ever mentioned her in loving way. He sighed. He has to deal with Lavanya tomorrow for he was sure Ali has made up with Maryam.

“Arnav,” came his wife’s sleepy voice.

She snuggled in his shoulder.

“Maryam gave me her card and told me to contact her if you hurt me.”

“You think I will hurt you?” he asked and felt silly. Had not he told her himself that he can hurt her? He hated himself for saying that. He can never hurt her… he couldn’t imagine that.

“Yes” she replied softly

“Will you contact her, then?”

“No.” she spoke and fell asleep. He wanted to ask her why she wouldn’t contact her but he found her snoring softly. He closed his eyes. He felt afraid and tired. Khushi won’t leave him, will she? He won’t hurt her, will he? He had no idea how to escape anxiety of being left alone.
